Keith Calder

Chairman

Mr Calder is a professional mining engineer with over 30 years mining experience and was the former CEO of both Western Coal and Walter Energy. Keith spent 16 years with Rio Tinto holding a number of senior executive and operational positions including as Managing Director of global copper projects. He had responsibility for approximately $24bn of capital projects (including engineering, construction and commissioning) and led a worldwide technical team of over 400 professionals in the US, Canada, Mongolia, Indonesia and Peru.

Rhidian Davies

Managing Director

Mr. Davies is the founder of the Energybuild Group Limited. He comes from a coal mining family and has spent his whole working life in both the underground and surface coal mining industry in South Wales, initially starting with British Coal. In 1987, he obtained a license from British Coal and planning permission that enabled him to start and operate his own private sector mine from a Greenfield site. Under his tenure the company successfully listed on the AIM and eventually oversaw its sale to Western Coal in 2010 that valued the company at c.£55m.

Stephen Williams

Sales Director

Mr. Williams has been involved in mining for over 35 years and was the youngest mining manager in British history. He went onto to help establish Ryan Mining in 1985 and grew the turnover to £40m by 1996 before a successful sale to a large competitor. Stephen has since then held directorships in various sectors including mining that covers all aspects of operations, engineering and sales.

Neil Price

Assistant Manager/Environmental

Mr Price has over 40 years’ experience in the deep mining industry comprising of management and supervisory roles in both longwall and room and pillar systems of working. A broad knowledge of Health and Safety and environmental matters associated with deep and surface mining and mineral processing operations. He has been employed at Aberpergwm colliery for over twenty years having responsibilities relating to Health and Safety, environmental matters, training and personnel. His remit also included the formulation and submission of planning applications and liaison with various bodies such as the Local Authority, Environment Agency, and Countryside Commission for Wales, in pursuit of the planning consents.

Thomas Davies

Mine Manager

Mr Davies is a Mining Engineer with 15 years of mining experience, starting in the mining industry as an Electrical Apprentice with Energybuild in 2003, later completed a BEng Mining Engineering Degree at the Camborne School of Mines supported by a scholarship from the Whitworth Society, IMechE. He has been awarded a first class certificate of qualification from the HSE to be appointed as a Mine Manager in the UK. He has also gained further knowledge and experience working in the UK and the US on highly productive room and pillar and longwall mining operations. Mr Davies has recently completed an MBA in Cardiff University in 2018.
